Energy Saving Lighting VS Regular Globes

The regular globes that most of us are still using in our homes have been around for over 100 years now. As our awareness of the impact that we are having on the environment has risen, however, so have ways that we can be more eco-friendly in our daily lives. One of these ways is by swapping over to energy saving lighting – but is this really the best choice?

  • These globes use a lot of electricity in their operation and have a very limited life. A 100-watt globe will only burn for about 1,000 hours.
  • These globes are known to grow hot during use, which calls for care when handling them. When they possess the wrong wattage for the application at hand, they can also pose a fire hazard.
  • These globes are much cheaper to produce than their energy efficient counterparts, which makes them cheaper to purchase.

Energy Saving

  • This lighting can last up to 10 times longer than the traditional globes found in our homes. On top of this, they are around 5 times more efficient.
  • This lighting is much more expensive than its standard counterparts, mostly because it costs a lot more to produce. They are also manufactured using mercury, which can be hazardous to our health.
  • This lighting is fairly durable and will not break (unlike regular globes, which are known to explode when the filament dies).

As you can see, there are a number of advantages and disadvantages associated with both forms of illumination. At the end of the day, however, energy saving lighting is definitely the more preferable option. Not only will it help you to save money, it will help you to use less electricity and lessen your carbon footprint.
